Affordance Studio (www.affordancestudio.com)is a team leveraging creative game design to redefine what play means for museums, events, classrooms, businesses and more.
As such, Affordance Studio is looking for a technical artist. The person we’re looking for will be responsible for the technical side of the project’s visuals : shaders, optimisation, technical directions for the artists, etc.
Affordance Studio is known for its serious games developed for web platforms. However, the project for which we are recruiting is much closer to a mass-market entertainment game.
Titled Windigo, the project is a narrative exploration game set in the 17th century. The player alternates between two protagonists : a young Innu boy and a young french girl. Both are stranded and try to survive the wild canadian lands. It is a game best described as historical, narrative and contemplative.

Overcome the challenge of helping to achieve the art direction in engine
Work closely with the creative team and participate in design discussions
Have a major impact on the development and direction of a video game production
The person we’re looking for will become the technical artist of the project and work closely with the technical director to create shaders and manage the rendering pipeline. This technical artist will have to be highly autonomous and be able to provide solutions to the various technical challenges that will appear during production.
Develop shaders to attain the desired visual render;
Work closely with the 3D modeling team;
Supply a technical direction and instruction to the other artists;
Work effectively with other members of the programming team, as well as members of the development team;
Plan effectively his or her work and provide realistic updates on progress;
Contribute positively to the achievement of the objectives of the project and the team;
Analyze and estimate the time and impact of the proposed functions.
Experience and qualifications:
Minimum 2 years of industry experience as technical artist;
Fluency in French (written and spoken);
Fluency in English, an asset.
Proficiency in shader development either;
with a nodal shader editor (Shader Graph, Amplify Shader, etc) and/or
through HLSL programming;
Proficiency in rendering and shader optimization;
Proficiency with Unity game engine;
Good understanding of the PBR pipeline;
Related skills (3D modeling, particles, etc), an asset;
Experience in optimization, an asset.
