Dreaming of a Jewish Christmas depicts a journey — a tale of immigrant outsiders who became irreplaceable players in pop culture’s mainstream. They were a generation of songwriters who understood the times they were writing for and who would go on to transform themselves and pop culture at the same time. They found in Christmas the perfect holiday in which to imagine a better world and, for at least one day a year, made us believe in it.
Affordance was given the task of developing an interactive web experience which would complement Riddle Films’s documentary with additional information like songs, interviews, recipes, etc. The design intention was to create a transmediatic experience that would stand out from the documentary with a less linear approach and let the users explore at their own pace the universe of Dreaming of a Jewish Christmas.
On December 3rd 2017, the web experience was released to echo the premiere of the documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival. It gave viewers that craved more of the documentary’s multicultural universe a chance to get a second serving.
